The Constable of Jerusalem is responsible for justice, payment and the command of mercenaries in battle, both the King's and those of Feudal Lords. In battle the Constable and his double strength, (he had first choice of men after the King), company of elite knights rode in the vanguard of the army. This is one of the most formidable companies in all Outremer.
