Strong swordsmen armed with a quality sword and coverd in chain mail.
These men are normally mounted but fight on foot for a number of reasons. The presence of these heavy swordsmen stiffens any battle line. As well, given the variety of terrain that the Normans fight on, a horse is not always an option. Covered in chain mail, they are well able to be the backbone of the foot section of Norman armies.
